MECH.VIN is a mobile application for auto mechanics, part of the MECHOrbit ecosystem. The app records vehicle service history, mechanic workload, salary calculations, and enables video surveillance of service bays. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
By using MECH.VIN, you agree to the terms of this Policy. The app is available exclusively to MECHOrbit clients and is not distributed through the App Store or Google Play.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Vehicle and License Plate Data
MECH.VIN uses cameras installed at service bay posts to automatically recognize vehicle license plates. This feature provides:
- Automatic vehicle identification upon entering the service bay;
- Linking video footage to a specific work order in CRMmech;
- Recording the start and end time of vehicle servicing;
- Building a digital archive of work performed for each vehicle.
Recognized license plates are stored in the MECHOrbit system and linked to the client vehicle card. Only authorized service station administrators have access to this data.
1.2 Video Recordings and Photos
Cameras at service bays record the work process. The app also allows mechanics to take photos of:
- Vehicle damage and defects upon intake;
- Worn or defective parts during repair;
- Completed work to confirm quality;
- Vehicle condition after service completion.
Video recordings and photos are stored in a secure archive owned by the service station. Car owners currently see only a text estimate. The feature to share photos with clients is coming in future updates.
1.3 Mechanic and Staff Data
The system records for each mechanic:
- Assigned tasks and checklists;
- Time spent on each operation;
- Salary accrued per day/week/month;
- Workload and productivity metrics;
- Status of ordered spare parts.
1.4 Technical Data
When using the app, the following is automatically collected:
- Device IP address;
- Mobile device type, version, and OS;
- Date and time of actions performed;
- App feature usage data.
2. Video Surveillance and Cameras
MECH.VIN is part of the MECHOrbit video surveillance system. Please note the following:
- Cameras are installed exclusively at the service bays of MECHOrbit client stations;
- The license plate recognition system activates only when motion is detected in the bay area;
- Video recording is conducted exclusively within the premises of the service station;
- The service station owner is responsible for notifying clients and employees about video surveillance;
- Video recordings are not shared with third parties without your consent.
3. How We Use Collected Data
Collected data is used exclusively to:
- Automate accounting and management processes at the service station;
- Build a transparent service history for each vehicle;
- Calculate mechanic salaries based on completed work;
- Protect service stations from unfounded client complaints;
- Give station owners a real picture of workload and efficiency;
- Improve service quality and eliminate situations where "nobody told me that".
4. Data Storage and Security
All data is stored on secure servers in EU countries. We use bank-level encryption.
- Mechanic data is deactivated upon dismissal, but the work history is retained;
- Vehicle and service data is stored indefinitely in the client card.
5. Sharing Data with Third Parties
We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Data may only be shared:
- With MECHOrbit technical partners maintaining the infrastructure;
